Every day, drivers across Ohio pass through thousands of intersections, some of which are more dangerous than most. Below are four intersections throughout the Buckeye State that have had particularly high rates of traffic accidents in recent years.

SR-2 (Airport Hwy) at CR-501 (Byrne Rd) in Toledo

This intersection in Toledo sits in a busy commercial area just minutes from the Toledo Express Airport. Drivers use Airport Highway as a major route to and from the airport as well as a connector to nearby I-475 and US-20. Plenty of traffic at this intersection also comes from Byrne Road, which connects to numerous neighborhoods, local businesses, and nearby shopping centers.

SR-161 (E Dublin-Granville Rd) at CR-75 (Cleveland Ave) in Columbus

In Columbus, Cleveland Avenue runs straight through several dense residential zones, while Dublin-Granville Road cuts across multiple large retail centers and connects to I-71. Together, these roads bring in traffic from all directions—local drivers, out-of-town visitors, and commercial vehicles. Several large shopping plazas and fast-food chains sitting near this intersection also draw constant traffic. Additionally, bus stops lining all sides of the intersection mean more foot traffic and sudden stops.

SR-317 (S Hamilton Rd) at CR-15 (E Livingston Ave) in Columbus

This intersection in Columbus is in the center of several large neighborhoods, schools, and strip malls. Hamilton Road links local drivers to I-70 and serves as a major north-south route for both local and regional traffic. Livingston Avenue brings in traffic from both sides of the city and runs near multiple retail centers. The significant number of entrances and exits from stores and side streets around this spot increases the chances of sudden collisions.

US-20 and SR-109 in Fulton County, West of Toledo

This rural intersection outside of Toledo might seem quiet, but it handles heavy commercial traffic every day. US-20 serves as a major east-west shipping corridor, and SR-109 runs north toward Michigan and south through several small towns. These roads have long, open lanes with few traffic lights, so semi-trucks often speed through the intersection. Due to this combination of factors, US-20 and SR-109 has been named one of the deadliest intersections in the US.

What to Do If You Get Hurt in an Ohio Intersection Accident

Here’s what you should do to look after your health and protect your legal rights if you get hurt in an intersection accident in Ohio:

  • Get checked by a doctor as soon as possible. Even if you feel okay, it’s best to have a doctor check you for injuries and document your condition for your records.
  • Gather and save photos and videos. Take and keep pictures of the scene, your car, your injuries, or any dashcam footage.
  • Keep copies of your medical records and bills. Hold onto anything related to your injuries, treatment, or recovery. These documents can show what happened and how it affected you.
  • Avoid posting about the crash on social media. Insurance companies and defense lawyers might look for your posts. Keep things private while your case is active.
  • Contact a lawyer who handles Ohio intersection accident cases. An attorney can help you understand your rights, handle the insurance company, and tell you what to expect.
